WWE Wrestlemania 39: Triple Threat Title Match and Fatal-4-Way Announced

Last week on Smackdown, Drew McIntyre vs. Sheamus vs. LA Knight vs. Karrion Kross vs. Xavier Woods in a fatal 5-way match, with the winner earning a title shot being the stipulation. However, McIntyre and Sheamus pinned LA and Woods at the same time, which never produced a result.

Then last night WWE booked McIntyre against Sheamus in an Intercontinental Championship qualifying match capacity. It ended in a DQ when Imperium’s Ludwig Kaiser and Giovanni Vinci attacked them, leading to an unprecedented endgame.

WWE official Adam Pearce then appeared on the big screen to announce a Triple Threat match for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 39 where GUNTHER will have to defend against Sheamus and Drew McIntyre in a No-DQ environment.

The former NXT UK champion has held the Intercontinental title more than anyone in this century starting in June last year when he beat Ricochet for the title. The Wrestlemania 39 title defense will likely be his toughest.

In other announcements around the Show of Shows coming out of Smackdown this week, commentator Wade Barrett noted that two Fatal-4-Way tag team matches, one for the men’s and women’s divisions, will be featured.

In the first qualifier for the same on Smackdown, Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez defeated the team of Tegan Nox and Emma to punch their tickets to Wrestlemania 39, with Morgan pinning Emma via the Oblivion finisher.

Although there is no confirmation, there is a good chance that Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler will be one of the four teams instead of directly facing Women’s Tag Team Champions Becky Lynch and WWE Hall of Famer Lita. .

Specific stakes for the next Fatal-4-Ways have yet to be announced. It is also unclear when and how participants in the men’s division tag team match will be confirmed.
