Woman suspected of biting, attacking men with hammer faces charges

April 4—A 41-year-old woman accused of attacking several men with a hammer and biting one of them during a confrontation in Kalispell last June faces multiple charges in U.S. County District Court. Flathead.

Prosecutors filed armed assault and misdemeanor assault charges against Andrea Suzanne Gustafson of Kalispell in September, but the 41-year-old woman was not incarcerated until March 30. Released on her own recognizance on April 1, Gustafson is expected to appear in court. before Judge Robert Allison on May 2 for his arraignment.

Authorities responded to McDermott Lane to receive reports of a disturbance around 4:52 p.m. on June 20, according to court documents. Victims and witnesses said the confrontation began with a woman brandishing a bat and acting angry. The woman walked toward a parked vehicle and began hitting him with the bat, according to court documents.

A second woman, later identified as Gustafson, joined the fight armed with a hammer a short time later, according to court documents. She threw it at one or two men on the property, hitting one of them, according to court documents. The man receiving the hammer had a small red abrasion on his upper left rib, according to court documents.

When one of the intended targets intervened, grabbing the hammer in an attempt to disarm her, Gustafson allegedly clamped her forearm with his teeth. He told investigators he pulled her hair to finally dislodge her.

Gustafson then allegedly jumped into a waiting Toyota and crashed into a nearby parked vehicle before driving away.

When Flathead County Sheriff’s Office deputies caught up with her, Gustafson admitted to trying to hit one of the men, but said she was unaware of the hammer she allegedly had in her hand , according to court documents. She later admitted to swinging the hammer, but thought she missed.
