Will FerrellThe actor, writer, producer and comedy legend has been selected by the Santa Barbara International Film Festival to receive its 17th annual award. Kirk Douglas The festival announced the award for cinematographic excellence on Wednesday morning.
Ferrell, who is currently promoting Josh Greenbaum‘s Will and Harper — a Netflix documentary about a road trip taken by Ferrell and his close friend, the comedy writer Harper Steelefollowing Steele’s gender transition, will be celebrated on Wednesday, December 11, at an evening dinner at the Ritz-Carlton Bacara in Santa Barbara. The event is a fundraiser that will benefit SBIFF’s annual educational programs.
No actor in the 21st century has been associated with as many successful comedy films as Ferrell. Michael DouglasWill Ferrell, Oscar-winning producer and actor and Kirk’s son, sent a message to Will Ferrell via SBIFF: “Comedy is the hardest thing, and you make it look easy, Will. Congratulations! Dad loved you.”
First presented in 2006, the SBIFF Kirk Douglas Award was created to honor “a long-standing contributor to filmmaking through work in front of, behind, or both the camera.” It has previously recognized Ryan Gosling, Michelle Yeoh, Martin Scorsese, Hugh Jackman, Judi Dench, Warren Beatty, Jane Fonda, Jessica Lange, Whitaker Forest, Robert De Niro, Harrison Ford, Quentin Tarantino, Ed Harris, John Travolta and the aforementioned Michael Douglas.
The 40th Santa Barbara International Film Festival will take place February 4-15, 2025.
