If you’ve been distracted by the Olympics and are catching up on all things NFL, some key players are out with injuries heading into draft season. Scott weighs in on whether there’s cause for concern.
Christian McCaffrey (calf injury):It’s nerve-wracking to draft a struggling player in the first round, let alone first overall. But CMC has been the best fantasy player twice (including in 2023); he remains my first overall pick.
Jahmyr Gibbs (hamstring):Gibbs’ ADP (13.1 on Yahoo) never made sense, given that David Montgomery is still around and probably has more goal-line equity. Gibbs suffers hamstring injury the team minimizes, after dealing with a soft tissue problem in JuneI can’t consider Gibbs at his current ADP.
Puka Nacua (knee injury):One of the reasons Nacua failed in the 2023 draft was his extensive resume of college injuriesHe also has a physical, total style, which worries me about his long-term durability. Cooper Kupp has his own red flags, but he’s currently 23 picks later than Nacua – Kupp could easily be the better value in this passing game.
Malik Nabers (ankle injury): Brian Daboll is a good coach and will be able to play Nabers early; I also don’t think QB Daniel Jones is a complete waste. Hopefully the ankle injury won’t cost the rookie too many crucial reps this summer, but Nabers confident he’ll be ready for Week 1.
Hollywood Brown (shoulder injury):Brown was selected ahead of teammate Xavier Worthy in Yahoo’s ADP this summer, but that should change after Brown injured his shoulder on Saturday. Surgery won’t be necessary, but Brown isn’t a sure thing to play in Week 1; be careful with Brown.
JJ McCarthy (knee injury):We knew Sam Darnold would be Minnesota’s starter in Week 1, now it’s a long-term assignment with McCarthy having late-season issues…
