GREENSBORO, North Carolina (Reuters) – Republican frontrunner Donald Trump president accused Joe Biden Saturday for engaging in a “conspiracy to overthrow the United States” through lax security policies that allowed millions of migrants to cross the U.S. border with Mexico.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Greensboro, North Carolina, Trump appeared to suggest, as he has in the past, that Democrats hope to convert migrants who enter the country illegally into reliable voters.

Biden’s administration, Trump asserted, seeks “to collapse the American system, overturn the will of America’s true voters, and establish a new power base that puts them in control for generations.” He did not give details.

In past statements, Trump has suggested that Democrats were deliberately allowing migrants to enter the country to increase their political support, a long-standing claim pushed by the far right and known as the “Great Replacement Theory.” .

Biden and Trump visited the southern border along Texas in separate visits Thursday, a sign that they each view the issue as politically potent.

Trump frequently claims without evidence, as he did again on Saturday, that migrants have caused an increase in violent crime in American cities.

At the North Carolina rally, Trump called the influx of migrants an “invasion” and said Biden would “turn our public schools into migrant camps.”

“We are not going to let them turn the United States into a dumping ground full of crime and disease,” Trump said.
