Titusville Mayor Dan Diesel joins crowded race for Brevard County Commission District 1 seat

Titusville Mayor Dan Diesel filed for the Brevard County Board of Commissioners on Monday, joining a crowded race and paving the way for a four-way Republican primary this summer. Incumbent District 1 Commissioner Rita Pritchett, a Republican, will not be up for re-election this year due to term limits, opening the field to a race that now has six candidates, including four Republicans.

Pritchett, who is seeking to remain in county government, filed this year to run for Brevard County Tax Collector against incumbent Lisa Cullen Diesel will face her former Titusville City Council colleague, Republican Robert Jordanformer member of Moms for Liberty Katie Delaney; and Mims activist Dwight Siegler, who previously ran as a Democrat, in the August 20 election. primary election.

Former Keep Brevard Beautiful executive director Bryan Bobbitt also filed for North Brevard’s District 1 seat as a Democrat, while libertarian activist and former City Council candidate Nathan Slusher filed for the libertarian ticket. Diesel has been a member of the Titusville City Council since 2016, when he won a four-way race to succeed former Titusville Mayor Walt Johnson’s open Seat 3 when Johnson ran for mayor.

Diesel served for the remaining two years of Johnson’s four-year term before winning the seat again two years later. Even two years later, Dan Diesel was elected mayor in 2020 when he ran unopposed.

The current salary for county commissioners is $60,272.98.

County Commission districts 3 and 5 will also hold elections this year.

County commission races are staggered, and Districts 2 and 4 have held their races in 2022 for four-year terms.
