TikTok star Nara Smith denies promoting traditional gender roles

Model-turned-TikTok star Nara Smith has captivated millions of viewers with her videos of making snacks and household products from scratch, from gum to toothpaste. In each TikTok, she talks about her kids and her husband, model Lucky Blue Smith, making laborious creations while also showing off perfectly put-together looks. Nara has become the face of the internet’s new generation of “tradwives,” but it’s not a role she wanted for herself.

In a rare interview, Nara set the record straight with GQresponding to various speculations about his personal life.

Addressing viewers’ theories that her clips are just for show and that Nara doesn’t do any of the actual work that comes with being a housewife, the TikTok personality denied that she and her husband are putting themselves forward.

“What people think online is that we have housekeepers, cleaners, nannies and all these things, when in reality it’s just me and Lucky wanting to start a family and share our lives online,” she told the outlet.

“He does the cleaning,” Nara said. “And I’m grateful for that, because I hate that part.”

As for whether she’s trying to influence other women to participate in traditional gender roles, Nara acknowledged that her intention was not to share a harmful message. “I’m not in any way saying that it’s okay or that it’s something that people have to do to be a certain way,” Nara revealed. “Whether it’s a meal idea, a homemade meal that I made for my toddler, my soothing voice, or whatever, I’m just posting content to inspire people. Everyone can take whatever they want from my content.”

Nara and Lucky have been accused of spreading religious propaganda by occasionally referencing their religion on TikTok. “I absolutely do not do that,” she said. “Everyone’s religion and faith is something so deeply personal to them that I would never want to put something out there for people to see. I never have and I never will. It’s crazy to me that people would think that.”

In addition to her housewife videos, Nara has stirred up controversy as a young mother. At just 22, the influencer has three children with her husband. She is also…
