Oscar-winning British actress Kate Winslet will receive the Golden Icon Award, a lifetime achievement prize, at the 20th Zurich Film Festival.
Winslet will be at the festival to receive the award on October 7, where she will present her latest film, LeeDirected by Ellen Kuras, the biopic explores the life of model Lee Miller, who became an acclaimed war photographer. Winslet, who plays Miller, also co-produced the film. She will receive the honor in Zurich in the presence of Lee Miller’s son, Antony Penrose, and Lee co-producer Kate Solomon.
Winslet has been on the world film scene since her acclaimed debut in Peter Jackson’s film. Heavenly Creatures in 1994. She achieved iconic status starring alongside Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic (1997) but balanced studio projects with independent and arthouse projects, The eternal sunshine of the spotless mind And Revolutionary Road has Small children And Steve Jobs; from his Oscar-winning performance in The reader in turn Avatar: The Way of WaterShe is also a two-time Emmy winner: For Mildred Pierce (2011), and Easttown Mare (2021).
“Kate Winslet is a true film icon and shines with her versatility in major studio blockbusters as well as in small independent productions,” said Christian Jungen, Artistic Director of the Zurich Film Festival. “Her multifaceted choice of roles and her long career in Hollywood make her a favorite with audiences across generations.”
The Zurich Golden Icon Award recognizes outstanding achievement in world cinema. Previous winners include Jessica Chastain, Hugh Jackman, Cate Blanchett and Hugh Grant.
The 20th Zurich Film Festival will take place from October 3 to 13, 2024.
