Anthony Bourdain’s life is going to be broadcast on the big screen.
Dominic Sessa, who made his breakthrough last year in Alexander Payne’s film The survivorsis set to star as the beloved culinary icon in a feature film from New York studio A24 and King Richard Star Thrower Entertainment outfit.
Matt Johnson, who is behind the well-received Blackberry feature film, which will be made from a screenplay by Todd Bartels and Lou Howe.
A24 is in talks to produce the film with Trevor White and Tim White executive producing with Star Thrower. Johnson and Matthew Miller are also reportedly producing the film with Emily Rose executive producing. A24 and Star Thrower recently wrapped production on Plasterboardy, with Miles Teller and Elizabeth Olsen.
Sessa is represented by CAA, Untitled and Hansen Jacobson; Johnson is represented by CAA and Akin Gump; Miller is represented by CAA and Akin Gump.
Bourdain rose to fame as a chronicler of New York’s rock-and-roll restaurant scene through his memoir. Confidential Kitchen. He then became the face of world travel and gastronomy with his series No reservation, which ran for eight seasons on the Travel Channel, and after that Unknown parts on CNN, which he hosted until his death in 2018.
Confidential Kitchen was adapted into a television series in 2005 starring Bradley Cooper as Bourdain. More recently, Bourdain’s life was the subject of the 2021 documentary Geocuckoo.
