Royal Rumble 2023: Ronda Rousey Status Revealed, New Names Announced For WWE PLE

With Royal Rumble just over a week away, WWE have discussed plans around the event in recent meetings and it looks like they are indeed making progress with the UFC Hall of Fame.

Fightful Select reports that Ronda Rousey is currently not slated for the Royal Rumble PPV. This goes completely against what previous reports have claimed and that it was still supposed to happen in December.

However, she then relinquished the SmackDown Women’s Championship to a returning Charlotte Flair on the December 30 edition of SmackDown, after which WWE had to take a change of direction, “We’re told that last week, Ronda Rousey was actually not scheduled for the Royal Rumble PPV, at the time she lost the title, which can clearly change.Until December, Rousey was scheduled for the show in a singles match.



The source also added that several veterans have approached WWE about making Royal Rumble appearances and that company officials have been looking into what they call “non-traditional surprises.”

Nothing concrete has been given about potential surprise entrants, as the creators and producers are still making presentations about it. It looks like WWE may be adamant about not including NXT names like they did in the 2022 edition.

Fightful Select was informed, “WWE was very confident in their women’s roster, just like last year’s hirings and call-ups, and how that would play into the Royal Rumble match.”

Last year, the women’s roster suffered high profile names due to mass exits and as a result many veteran superstars had to be called up for the Women’s Rumble match, including the winner, Ronda Rousey.



Until December, The Baddest Woman on the Planet was still scheduled to perform in a singles match. But maybe WWE wants to take her off TV for a few weeks so she can be back with a new mojo, avoiding the continued backlash from the public.

That being said, Rousey would have to be back after Royal Rumble to be included in one of the Wrestlemania storylines. Speaking of Rumble, Smackdown stars like Zelina Vega, Shayna Baszler, and The Banger Bros have declared their entries to respective Rumble matches.

The 2023 WWE Royal Rumble premium live event takes place on Saturday, January 28 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Currently, the match card for the show is as follows,

– Undisputed WWE Universal Championship Match: Roman Reigns (c) vs. Kevin Owens

– Black height match: Bray Wyatt vs. LA Knight

– Gross Women’s Championship Match: Bianca Belair (c) vs. Alexa Bliss (stipulation to be determined by Bliss)

– Men’s Royal Rumble Match: Rey Mysterio, GUNTHER, Baron Corbin, Kofi Kingston, Ricochet, Santos Escobar, Seth Rollins, Austin Theory, Bobby Lashley, Omos, Cody Rhodes, Drew McIntyre, Sheamus, Braun Strowman and 16 TBA Superstars

– Women’s Royal Rumble match: Raquel Rodriguez, Liv Morgan, Candice LaRae, Rhea Ripley, Zelina Vega, Shayna Baszler and 24 TBA Superstars
