Renee Margolin Talks Sillywhim and “Wee Sing In Sillyville”

Before we conclude, just a few post-Sillyville Questions. Have you watched it over the years? Have you ever been recognized in public?

I had VHS tapes and CDs. I gave them all away. The coolest thing was that my best friend’s daughter had a Sillyville She joined the show’s fan club when she was in college 25 years ago. Now she has her own kids and they’re watching it again. It’s really sweet.

I remember being in a deli eating and a woman came up to me and asked, “Are you Sillywhim?” It was really cute and we took pictures together.

I moved from Oregon to work in the family business. When I first started working there, I would stand behind the counter and see moms come in. They would look at me and say, “Hmm.” I would lean over and ask, “Do you have a three- to five-year-old?” And they would say, “Oh my God, you’re Sillywhim!”

I was recognized, and sometimes I still am. I don’t have those curls anymore, but you know what? I’m just so happy that it’s still so powerful.

Can you believe it’s been 35 years? What are you doing these days? How’s your life?

Well, honey, I’m retired. I’m 74, I did Sillywhim when I was in my 30s, so I’m retired. I’m living my best life. I worked in the family business for a long time, took care of my mom when she was sick, and did a bunch of different things, but I stopped performing. There were a few years with my band in Oregon, I would fly in and we would do a “Best of Show” on stage in Eugene, but I miss performing.
