Qatar’s machinery and equipment index rises slightly in the second half of 2022
Qatar saw a 0.72% year-on-year (y-o-y) rise in the Machinery & Equipment Price Index (MEPI) in the second half (H2) of 2022 due to higher prices for transport equipment, office machines and special-purpose machines, which have a greater weight in the MEPI basket, according to official data.
Otherwise, the largest increase on an annualized basis was reported in metal tools and musical instruments, which have a lower weight in the MEPI basket, according to figures released by the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA). .
The MEPI, a short-term indicator calculated semi-annually, increased by 0.17% compared to that of the first half (H1) of 2022.
The IPEM – with 2012 as the base year – is used by the national accounts as a deflator to calculate constant price estimates of final demand purchases of machinery and equipment and to calculate estimates of capital formation.
The transportation equipment index, which has a weighting of 34.82% in the MEPI basket, was up 1.06% year-on-year, but down 1.28% month-on-month during the period considered.
The Special Purpose Machinery Index, which has a weighting of 23.71% in the MEPI basket, was up 0.8% and 0.05% year-on-year and month-on-month, respectively. the other during the second half of 2022.
