Meta has acquired Impulse: Playing with realityan interactive mixed reality documentary exploring attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) starring Tilda Swinton. The project, co-directed by May Abdalla and Barry Gene Murphy, will premiere in the Venice Immersive 2024 program of the 81st Venice International Film Festival.
The project draws on more than 100 hours of interviews with people with the most severe ADHD, using the mixed reality format to give viewers a sense of what it’s like to live with the condition.
Pulse is the second part of the series “Playing With Reality” from British producer Anagram, co-produced by Floréal and France Télévisions, which aims to highlight mental health disorders through immersive storytelling.
Swinton also narrated the series’ first project, Abdalla and Murphy’s 2021 VR work Goliathan exploration of a man’s experience with schizophrenia, which won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Immersive Virtual Reality Work at the 78th Venice Film Festival and was nominated for an Emmy Award in the Outstanding Interactive Media Innovation category.
Meta will present Pulse on its Meta Quest service. The documentary can be pre-orderedfor $4.99, ahead of its release next month. Meta has also released Goliath.
