Sorry, Anna and Jake shippers. It seems that the beloved character played by Chad Michael Murray in Freaky Friday is not married to Anna, played by Lindsay Lohan, in the upcoming sequel, Scarier Friday.
In a conversation with Weekly Entertainment, Lohan and her on-screen mother, Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis)revealed that Anna is married to Manny Jacinto’s character, whose name has not yet been revealed.
“Manny plays Lindsay’s husband. But that’s all we can say,” Curtis told the publication, noting that they were still in the middle of filming. “Manny is adorable. So funny,” Lohan added of her on-screen love interest.
When Disney revealed that Murray would return to play Jake in the Freaky Friday Following this, fans were filled with excitement, hoping to see Lohan and Murray’s characters together 20 years after the original film.
Although it seems like they won’t be in a romantic relationship, Curtis joked, “Chad is a part of it. And my God, my God, Chad is a part of it.”
Lohan, Curtis and Murray aren’t the only cast members returning for the sequel. They’ll be joined by original stars Mark Harmon, Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Lucille Soong, Stephen Tobolowsky and Rosalind Chao, as well as newcomers Jacinto, Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan.
THE Freaky Friday The sequel picks up years after Tess and Anna swapped bodies, and now Anna has a daughter of her own and a future daughter-in-law. “As they navigate the myriad challenges that arise when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning can indeed strike twice,” the film’s synopsis reads.
Aside from Jacinto playing Lohan’s on-screen husband, no other details have been released about Butters, Hammons and Ramakrishnan’s roles – though it’s likely that at least one of them will play Lohan’s daughter and another could play her almost-daughter-in-law.
Producers include Curtis, Kristin Burr and Andrew Gunn, who worked on the original film. Lohan, Nathan Kelly and Ann Marie Sanderlin are executive producers on the sequel, which is directed by Welcome to Chippendales director Nisha Ganatra.
Scarier Friday will be released in theaters in 2025.
