Job Purpose

Responsible for the engineering, design and technical oversight during construction of projects relating to regulating stations and associated systems.



Key Accountabilities

  • Perform engineering and design for natural gas construction projects which may include distribution/transmission pipelines, regulating facilities, large metering, natural gas heaters, and gate stations.
  • Incorporate applicable Standards, Procedures and State/Federal statutory requirements into Gas system designs.
  • Interpret and incorporate corporate process safety procedures.
  • Identify, specify, and acquire materials to be used in association with gas construction projects.
  • Identify and acquire the necessary permits, licenses, and land rights associated with the project.
  • Collaborate with Gas Operations and Gas Engineering teams in developing procedures to support the engineering and design of gas facilities in accordance with company and regulatory requirements including all safety, health and environmental standards and procedures.
  • Compile and review as-built documentation for accuracy and incorporation into mapping and document management systems.
  • Participate and/or lead inter-regional project activities. This may require travel outside of assigned service territories.
  • Participate in Storm restoration activities or other system emergencies as called upon.

Capabilities

  • Establish and lead an engineering design project team to develop and manage all engineering aspects of a project with moderate to high complexity, including project closeout and compilation of as-built documentation.
  • Promotes team effectiveness by soliciting input from internal and external team members and stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated individual who can manage workload with minimal oversight.
  • Ability to identify potential efficiencies to improve internal and external processes and lead initiatives to implement change.
  • Ability to negotiate and manage commercial contracts with third parties and suppliers.
  • Actively builds and maintains a network of relationships across functions, with peers in other organizations within the industry and with the regulators and utilizes these contacts to keep abreast of best practices and build mutual trust.
  • Develop project bid specifications and assist in the procurement of engineering and/or construction services.
  • Manage external engineering design firms contracted to support projects to ensure all work is performed in accordance with company standards, within budget, and on schedule.
  • Lead design quality peer reviews and actively participate in reviews of other peers’ work.
  • Effectively communicate project information with involved internal and external stakeholders.
  • Implement change control procedures as necessary to track design changes initiated by engineering or field operations and identify any associated risks that may result. Document any requests to deviate from approved/agreed to parameters and seek authorization where required.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Science Degree in an Engineering discipline is required.
  • At least six years of engineering, design, or project management experience.
  • Candidates in possession of a Professional Engineering License are preferred. Commitment to Safety as a core value.
  • Experience in the application of design and construction standards, engineering drawings, and underground construction methods and procedures.
  • Technical knowledge of natural gas system design and operations, including natural gas industry codes and regulations, engineering and environmental codes and standards.
  • Technical knowledge of pressure regulation station design and operation, calculations associated with equipment sizing and selection, and applicable industry codes and regulations
  • Knowledge of ASME B31.8, OSHA, PHMSA, and applicable State regulations.
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage multiple projects within budget and time constraints
  • Demonstrate a high level of personal initiative and ability to interact with a diverse group of company personnel, contractors, regulatory representatives, and town/city officials in a positive collaborative manner.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively both internally and externally to the organization.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license with safe driving history.

Salary Range: $123,000 – $145,000
