Korean Cheerleading Movie Victory is set to hit theaters in the United States. Ahead of its South Korean release, the film was pre-sold by Seoul-based sales company Finecut to 815 Pictures for a North American theatrical release.
Described as “an uplifting and heartwarming drama centered around a high school dance duo,” the film follows the cheerleaders as they inspire an underprivileged school soccer team and the surrounding village on a remote Korean island. Directed by Park Beom-su, known for Single in Seoul And Red carpetThe film had its world premiere at the opening of the recent New York Asian Film Festival, where one of its stars, Lee Hye-ri, received the event’s International Asian Rising Star Award.
Finecut has also signed deals for the film across Asia, including with Sky Films Entertainment for Taiwan; Lumix Media for Vietnam; PT Prima Cinema Multimedia for Indonesia; House of M for Thailand; Emphasis Video Entertainment for in-flight distribution; and with Westec Media Limited for Cambodia.
Victory will be released in North America on August 16, shortly after its release in South Korea on August 14. Finecut says the other Asian release dates will be spread out across August and September.
The rest of the cast includes: Park Se-wan (Life is beautiful) as the other member of the dance duo; Cho A-ram (from the TV series THANKS), as a former member of a cheerleading squad in Seoul who moves to the village; and Lee Jung Ha (from the hit Disney+ film Mobile), playing the role of a goalkeeper on the school’s football team who always loses.
Produced by Korean company Annapurna Films, headed by Lee Anna, the producer behind box office hits like Sunny And The scandal makers, Victory is presented by Mindmark, a content intellectual property company owned by Shinsegae Group. Mindmark has been involved as a Korean financier and distributor of local titles such as Courageous Citizen, Love Reset And Sweet honey. His recent list also includes Hur Jin-ho A normal family And Chief.
