Kannapolis pursuit ends in crash outside Uptown, police say

A multi-county chase involving a box truck ended just outside of downtown Friday morning, according to the Kannapolis Police Department.

Around 2:30 a.m., police received reports that suspects were loading a rental truck with stolen devices in a new development near Concord Lake Road.

After responding to the scene, the suspects spotted officers and jumped into the truck, sparking a pursuit.

Eventually, stop sticks were deployed and both front tires of the truck blew out.

The chase then ended when the truck crashed in front of Woodie’s Auto Service and Repair around 3 a.m.

Police said Jamie Shawn McCorkle, 44, and Neil Edward Branch, 45, were arrested.

McCorkle was charged with felony fleeing to elude, felony breaking and entering, felony theft after breaking and entering, felony theft of a motor vehicle, resisting a public officer and several other traffic offenses.

Branch was charged with felony breaking and entering, felony theft after breaking and entering, and felony theft of a motor vehicle.

Both suspects were taken to the Cabarrus County Jail.

Police said the suspects in this case may have been involved in a number of other thefts linked to the construction of new homes.
