Joseph Goebbels biopic sells out ahead of Berlin debut .

German company Beta Cinema has racked up multiple territory deals for its Joseph Goebbels biopic Leader and seducer ahead of the film’s premiere at the European Film Market in Berlin later this week. Beta has signed territorial rights agreements with Spain (A Contracorriente), Portugal (Films4You), Scandinavia (Mis Label), Benelux (Dutch Film Works), Czech Republic (Donart Film), the former Yugoslavia (Discovery), Japan (AT Entertainment) and Australia and New Zealand (Moving Story Entertainment) for the feature film. Wild Bunch will distribute the film in German-speaking territories.

Directed by filmmaker/writer/historian Joachim A. Lang, who directed the 2018 film Mack the Knife — Brecht’s Threepenny Movie with Lars Eidinger, Leader and seducer stars Robert Stadlober as Goebbels, Austrian actor Fritz Karl (Sissi) like Adolf Hitler and Franziska Weisz (The swarm) in the role of Magda, Goebbels’ wife. Stadlober also stars in Josef Hader’s Panorama Andrea gets a divorcewhich will have its world premiere at the Berlinale this year.

The film follows Goebbels over the last seven years of his life, working alongside Hitler to create and run the Nazi anti-Semitic propaganda machine, including producing such infamous films as Jud Doux And The eternal Jew, in order to prepare the German people for the massacre of the Jews. After the defeat at Stalingrad and the increasingly desperate situation at the end of 1944, Goebbels planned the most radical act of propaganda, his final staging, with Hitler’s suicide, the murder of his family and his own suicide.
