The rumors are true: Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez are over… again.
One of Hollywood’s most famous couples has split for the second time as Lopez filed for divorce Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court. PeopleLopez listed her separation date as April 26, 2024, though she filed today, Aug. 20, the two-year anniversary of their Georgia wedding, an extravagant wedding that followed a quick elopement to Las Vegas in July 2022. The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to representatives for Affleck and Lopez and will provide an update accordingly, though no statement is expected as both have remained silent in recent months about the status of their relationship. TMZ was the first to report the news.
The news comes after a dizzying few months of tabloid headlines and TMZ explosive news about the sale of their $65 million mansion, separate outings (with and without rings) and speculation about the source of tension in one of the most high-profile couples in modern celebrity history.
In hindsight, the clues were there. Tabloid coverage included reports of Lopez’s solo summer trip to the Hamptons (and Italy before that) while Affleck remained in Los Angeles, where he reportedly moved his belongings from their shared home to a rental in Brentwood. She attended the premiere of his Netflix movie Atlas alonejust like that other big release in May when she came out with no more one as co-chair of fashion’s biggest night at the Met Gala, which has long been a hot spot for Hollywood couples. While in the Hamptons, she also celebrated her 55th birthday with a The Bridgerton Chronicle-themed party without Affleck in sight.
Affleck, 51, and Lopez, 54, reunited in April 2021, after she ended her engagement to baseball legend Alex Rodriguez and Affleck split from his former co-star Ana de Armas. A year later, Affleck proposed while Lopez was taking a bubble bath. An intimate ceremony in Las Vegas followed in July 2022, while a larger, more traditional ceremony followed a month later at Affleck’s Georgia estate, officiated by life coach and podcaster Jay Shetty and covered by VogueThe bride wore a custom Ralph Lauren wedding dress while the seats were filled with family and friends including Matt Damon, filmmaker Kevin Smith and Affleck’s longtime agent, WME’s Patrick Whitesell.
