Fantasy football analyst Sal Vetri compiles all the NFL training camp news YOU need to know heading into Week 3 of the preseason.
No. 11: Jahan Dotson traded to Eagles
I expect a lot of people to think this is big news for Terry McLaurin, but it’s not. We already knew McLaurin was way ahead of Dotson; this doesn’t change his perspective. The big winners here are the receivers who will actually get more playing time and snaps. That includes Dyami Brown and Luke McCaffrey, who now become decent late-round targets in your fantasy drafts.
Dotson will likely start in three receiver sets for the Eagles. That means he would be coming off the field in two receiver sets behind AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith. It doesn’t help that he’s also competing with Dallas Goedert and Saquon Barkley for targets. Dotson becomes a player to completely avoid in drafts.
No. 10: Jaylen Warren Injures Hamstring
Warren injured his hamstring in the Steelers’ second preseason game. His return was immediately deemed doubtful. But a few days later, coach Mike Tomlin shed some light on the situation, saying Warren would be “out for this week, but nothing that is a long term problem.“
I consider this excellent news because it suggests that the hamstring was a mild strain. These injuries usually heal within a few weeks and, according to physiotherapist Jeff Mueller92% of injured RBs return in three weeks or less. That would imply a better than 90% chance that Warren is back by Week 1. He remains a target in your fantasy drafts.
Herbert returned to training MondayHe has a plantar fascia injury in his foot. It’s a persistent problem that can last a long time, so it’s good to see Herbert back in training after only a few weeks out.
What is even more encouraging is that Herbert was participating fully in training and, according to Kris Rhimlooked in good shape. Herbert has a whole new cast of wide receivers to throw passes to in Ladd McConkey, DJ Chark, Will Dissly and Hayden Hurst. These practice reps are extremely important to building a connection with his new teammates.
Players like Josh Palmer have a leg up when it comes to establishing chemistry with Herbert early in the season. Palmer played three seasons with Herbert, making him an attractive target in the 13th round of drafts.
#8: Who are the Patriots’ starting WRs?
Patriots WR room is coming together and there’s a bit of a surprise; third-year receiver Tyquan Thornton seems to be the team’s starting X receiver on the outside. The team’s three starting receivers are currently apparently Thornton, Demario Douglas and rookie Ja’Lynn Polk.
Thornton has struggled with injuries early in his career, having just 35 receptions in two seasons. But he has electric 4.28 speed and is a playmaker on the outside. However, if I had to pick one of these receivers to target in the draft, it would be Ja’Lynn Polk in the 16th round.
The second-round rookie produced 1,159 yards on 111 targets last year in college and can win both in the slot and outside…
