Earthquakes were felt in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday evening around 9:33 p.m. The intensity of the earthquake was measured at 4.1 on the Richter scale. The epicenter of the earthquake was at a depth of five kilometers underground at Jogindernagar in Mandi district. Apart from Mandi, tremors were also felt in Kullu, Kangra, Bilaspur for three to five seconds. Many people came out of their homes in panic and ran to open places. DC Mandi Arindam Chowdhary said no earthquake damage was reported. Tremors were also felt in Bhuntar and Manali. Over 20,000 lives were lost in the 1905 earthquake.
Let us tell you that Himachal comes in seismic zone four and five from the perspective of the earthquake. Kangra, Chamba, Lahaul, Kullu and Mandi are the most earthquake prone areas. More than 20,000 human lives were lost in Kangra in the early morning of April 4, 1905 during a magnitude 7.8 earthquake. Around one million buildings were destroyed by the quake, while more than 53,000 cattle also fell victim to the quake.
