Blake Lively claimed her husband Ryan Reynolds wrote a scene in It ends with usand the screenwriter seemed to have different thoughts.
At the New York premiere of Colleen Hoover’s adaptation last week, Blake said Hey!“[Me and Ryan] “We help each other, we work so much together. The iconic scene on the roof, my husband wrote it. Nobody knows.”
“He wrote it,” she continued. “He works on everything I do. I work on everything he does. So his victories, his celebrations are mine and mine are his. He’s all over this movie.”
The problem is that there is a screenwriter credited for the film: Christy Hall. At the same event, she told the Hollywood Reporter“As a writer, the most difficult scene for me to interpret was probably the one on the roof. I have to say that Colleen wrote it perfectly. I wish I could have taken it from the pages and put it in the film, but it’s a little too long for the language of cinema.”
After Blake’s comments made headlines, People asked Christy for more information on the creation of this scene. “I’m very proud of my work, and I feel like the rhythms that were meant to be honored in this scene are preserved and they’re there,” she said. “Again, Colleen did it best. She did it first and it’s her own. I think this scene is a really beautiful reflection of what she wrote from the beginning.”
Christy later said she was not aware of any written contributions from Ryan. She explained, “There were a few things that I thought were improvised. Like when he says, ‘Please, with a cherry on top,’ and she talks about maraschino cherries. When I saw a cut, I was like, ‘Oh, that’s cute. That must have been a cute little improvisation.’ So if I’m told that Ryan wrote that, then great, that’s wonderful.”
“There are some little flourishes that I didn’t write, but I thought were improvised on set. But, again, like I said, the moments that I felt deserved to be honored are there. So I recognize the scene and I’m proud of it. And if those flourishes come from Ryan, I think that’s wonderful,” she concluded.
