Dennis Lehane’s A Bostonian Gets the Cinematic Treatment

After Sun Tango outfit and A private war Producer Kamala Films is developing an adaptation of Dennis Lehane’s thriller novel “A Bostonian,” calling on Philip Barantini to direct.

Damien Ober will adapt the short story Shutter Island And the mystical river author Lehane, who will serve as executive producer.

“A Bostonian” is set in the world of antiques and estate sales. According to its synopsis, the story “centers on Nathaniel Dodson, a mild-mannered rare book owner who developed an obsession with collecting rejection letters – something he never received when his mother gave up when he was a child. A rumor developed that he was in possession of a rare and extremely valuable first edition of Tamerlane and Other Poems by a Bostonian (aka Edgar Allen Poe), just as a mysterious woman appeared at his door claiming to be her long lost sister. As they get to know each other, it quickly becomes apparent that no one is exactly what they seem. »

Barantini, who will executive produce through his Made Up Stories banner, the most recently made dramatic thriller Accused for Netflix. He will soon return to the streamer for a four-part crime drama, Adolescence, with Stephen Graham. His second feature film, Boiling point, was nominated for four BAFTAs in 2022 and has since been adapted into a series by the BBC. Brantini is repped by CAA, UK’s Independent Talent, Grandview and JSSK.

Ober, taken over by Navigation Media Group, has credits such as The OA And Dominationand wrote an adaptation of Denis Johnson’s novel Form dreams which will be directed by Clint Bentley with Joel Edgerton and Felicity Jones starring. He will release his second novel, Emptyin 2025 via Simon &…
