China’s Suzhou City Aims to Become a Metaverse Hub by 2025
The Chinese city of Suzhou has announced a roadmap to become a metaverse hub by 2025, as reported by Forkast News.
The city aims to become the main attraction for development and innovation in the metaverse, according to Forkast News report. Suzhou also aims to attract more than 200 companies that focus on virtual reality technology within its borders by 2025.
Even though the city has not disclosed budget information for its plans, it aims to launch 30 different scenarios that mainly focus on the areas of health, urban planning, tourism and education.
China on the Metaverse
Suzhou is located in the Chinese province of Jiangsu. The Chinese provinces of Beijing, Chongqing, Jinan, Zhejiang, Guangzhou and Henan have announced similar plans to improve their metaverse capabilities.
Despite its anti-crypto stance, China takes a friendlier approach to the metaverse. The country’s capital, Shanghai, launched a $149 million (1 billion yuan) metaverse fund in December 2022. The fund aims to develop the metaverse industry in China and increase competition in this field.
China made its anti-crypto stance clear when it banned crypto mining in 2021. Despite lawmakers’ tough approach to crypto, the country has been revealed to hold the crypto it confiscated so far, which equates to $3.9 billion.
