China’s energy infrastructure mapped out in 2022
Rice University’s Baker Institute for Public Policy has released its latest edition China Energy MapOpen source, interactive chart of the country’s energy infrastructure.
China Energy Map provides a comprehensive overview of the country’s entire energy system, including oil and gas infrastructure as well as coal and nuclear power plants and electric vehicle battery plants. The 2022 upgrade includes four new layers: natural gas pipelines, liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminals, natural gas power plants and hydrogen plants.
The map was created by Shih Yu (LC) Hung, research manager at the Baker Institute’s Center for Energy Studies, and Gabriel Collins, a baker’s Fellow in Energy and Environmental Regulatory Affairs, and Michael Mishot Foss, colleague on energy and materials.
The map, released as China Oil Map in February 2019, tracks nearly 5,200 energy facilities in China, which serve as a data source for academics and the general public, Hung said. As it continues to develop, the team plans to add layers such as electric vehicle production sites, battery mineral mines and storage sites and natural gas infrastructure such as processing plants.
