Tata Sons changes Air India board; Tata Group recruits veterans

Tata Sons has for the first time revised the entire board of Air India after taking full control of the troubled airline from the government. Four people on the board have been re-appointed, but with new responsibilities as advisers for CFO, COO and HR, Commerce and Technology.

In addition, four individuals from the Tata Group have been promoted to top management positions, including CCO, CHRO, Chief Digital and Technology Officer and Customer Experience and Ground Handling Head.

Sources said, “Captain RS Sandhu, along with other directors including Amrita Sharan and Meenakshi Malik, have asked Finance Director Vinod Hejmadini to step down from the board and they have been re-appointed to their new positions.

According to an internal communication delivered by Tata Sons Chairman and Air India Board Chairman N Chandrasekharan, Captain RS Sandhu has been re-appointed as Chief of Operations, Vinod Hejmadi will take over as Chief Financial Officer, Amrita Sharan and Meenakshi Malik as Retirement CEO to VR, Advisor to CEO, Vani and CEO; Appointed.

Chandrasekaran took over as Air India chairman last month. Along with him, Hindustan Unilever Chairman and Managing Director Sanjeev Mehta and former Chairperson of the General Insurance Corporation Alice Vaidyan have been appointed as independent directors.

Chandrasekaran said he would be an advisor to the chairman until the CEO joins. He also sought the guidance, support and insight of the employees to make Air India a success.

Earlier, Tata Sons appointed Ilker AC, former chairman of Turkish Airlines. However, he refused to accept the offer for various reasons.

He also announced the appointment of a new management team comprising Tata Sons Chairman, Chief Commercial Officer & Accountable Manager Nipun Agarwal. Businessline Information that Agarwal is considering name. He has been the Senior Vice President at Tata Sons for Investment Management for the past five years. Agarwal came with another 26 years of experience.

Suresh Dutt, who resigned from Tata Steel last year, has been appointed as the Chief Human Resources Officer of Tripathi Air India. Overall, Tripathi has nearly 40 years of work experience.

Satya Ramaswamy, who has been the Head of Strategic Initiatives at Tata Digital for over a year now, has been appointed Chief Digital and Technology Officer for Air India. Ramaswamy has been working in the digital sector (including TCS) for the past two and a half decades. .

Rajesh Dogra has been appointed Head of Customer Experience & Ground Handling. Dogra Global Program Director, Passport Service Program, a joint venture between Tata Consultancy Services and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He is experienced in embedding and implementing large, complex public service programs initiated through the innovative use of IT and digital technologies.
