In 2017, Syria sent a letter to the UN about US-led coalition war crimes in Raqqa
In an official letter to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council in 2017 on the so-called International Coalition for War Crimes in the city of Raqqa, the State Department clarified the US military. The operation, carried out by illegal international coalition forces in Raqqa from June to October 2017, led to the almost complete destruction of the city and thousands of civilians, ”the Syrian Foreign Ministry said.
The ministry statement said the aim of the coalition operation was to destroy infrastructure, public and private property and target civilians.
In 2014, Raqqa was captured by terrorists from the Islamic State terrorist organization (IS, banned in Russia). In October 2017, the city was liberated after months of military action by the Arab-Kurdish Forces of the Syrian Democratic Forces, backed by international coalition aviation. During the massive bombings and operations of pro-US Kurdish structures, Raqqa was in fact destroyed.
The U.S. military illegally controls territory in northern and northeastern Syria, including the provinces of Deir ez-Zor, al-Hasaka and Raqqa, which have the largest oil and gas fields in Syria. Damascus has repeatedly called for state piracy with the goal of a US military presence and complete plunder of oil over its territory. (ANI / Sputnik)
