The demise of BJP leader Ashok Sharma marked the end of an era for the Brahmin society in eastern Rajasthan. Although known because of his father and former minister Banwari Lal Sharma, Ashok Sharma carved his own identity and became the patron of Brahmin society as the true bearer of his grandfather Jagan’s legacy. Ashok Sharma was about 63 years old. Congress District President. Contested and lost on Congress ticket in 2008 and BJP ticket in 2018. Ashok Sharma, the eldest son of former minister Banwarilal Sharma, entered active politics in 1984 as the Youth Congress President. Till 2018 Sharma remained active in the politics of Dholpur. Sharma left the Congress and joined the BJP just before the 2018 assembly elections. Became a candidate from Rajkheda, but had to face defeat in front of Rohit Bohra. He was considered the leader of Vasundhara Raje’s camp.

Carrying on father’s legacy
Ashok Sharma had kept the legacy of father Banwarilal Sharma in Dholpur since 2008. His father was a Congress candidate in the 2013 elections and the 2017 by-elections. The entire command of the election remained in the hands of Ashok Sharma. A large number of people attended for the last rites at Mukti Dham in Chambal. Due to this there was a jam on National Highway 44.

The family was dominant till Gwalior
Ashok Sharma was Jagan’s grandson, in whose name Jagan Bhavan still stands proudly in Dholpur. The influence of the Jagan family was in the Brahmin society spread up to Dholpur, Bhind, Morena, Karauli, Madhopur, Dausa. Jagan’s identity was to patronize Brahmins, which Ashok Sharma took forward. If Jagan was written on any vehicle, then even the dacoits active in the area did not dare to stop it.
