Malaysian writer Uthya Shankar, who was arrested on a Facebook post for allegedly insulting the Prophet Muhammad, has vowed not to write anything about Islam in the future.

Shankar allegedly said in his post Written About polygamy and the issue of Prophet Muhammad, who insults Islam. Section 298A of the Penal Code, a law that prescribes offenses related to creating imbalances and discrepancies, and section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of communication networks.

Police said they seized a mobile phone and a SIM card from the suspect, which is believed to have been used while uploading the post.

However, he was released two days after police failed to obtain a four-day remand order against him. They released him on Wednesday.

After his release from prison, Uthya said he would never write about Islam in his life. “I always read about Islam, but I have learned my lesson. I will stay away from Islam and not write anything about Islam in the future, it will be the best, ”he said. He was speaking to Malaysians after being released from police custody early this morning.

Uthya said this is the first time he has fallen asleep in a lock-up. “I had no problems and I slept well last night. The lock-up was also clean and well maintained, ”he said.

Following his arrest, Com Datuk Seri Abd Jalil Hassan, director of the Federal Commercial Crime Investigation Department, advised the public to be cautious when making public comments on sensitive matters. “The public should also be smart and sensible social media users and not use the platform to create public concern and threaten national harmony.
