Friends describe loss of 17-year-old student as ‘worst nightmare ever’ after ‘getaway’ football star died in car crash, his Georgia school has shared.
LaMarcus Parks Jr. is “a name we will never forget,” Cedar Grove High School Principal Clifton Spears said on social media.
Parks died after a car crash that injured three people around 6:40 p.m. on Feb. 3, the DeKalb Police Department said in a news release shared with McClatchy News.
The director confirmed that the three other people involved in the accident were also Cedar Grove StudentsWSB-TV reported.
Parks was rushed to the hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries. The other students were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
“It was her milestone year,” Spears told WSB-TV. “He had 14 sacks total this year and had a great championship game, so we were looking at him to get some big deals. LaMarcus had a truly bright future.
The Parks team celebrated its fifth state championship in 2023 with the help of Parks as a defensive end for the Saints. His team told WSB-TV that Parks “worked hard every day,” so they promised to honor his memory.
“We’re going to win for him again,” Boden Walker said.
Parks’ football coach described Parks as a “exceptional person”, reported 11Alive. In a letter obtained by the outlet, the principal said the high school student also competed for the wrestling team.
Several people described Parks as their best friend as they mourned his sudden loss.
“Not talking to you for three days seems like the longest 3 days of my life,” a friend wrote in a message. tribute to Parks on Instagram, adding that his death doesn’t seem “real at all.”
His loss follows the death of his friend and comrade Cedar Grove football player Antwan Davis, also a car accident victim, announced the school in June 2023.
