For his very first role, Rachel Zegler has been cast as Maria in Steven Spielberg’s 2021 adaptation West Side StoryShe won the Golden Globe for Best Actress in a Motion Picture Comedy or Musical for her performance.

After beating out 30,000 actors, she told BuzzFeed: “The process was extremely long and very stressful. I auditioned for about two and a half weeks, which was almost a year, which is not very common in this kind of situation.” When asked about her reaction to getting the role, she said: “I yelled a curse word. And then I told Steven it was the longest year of my life. He apologized to me and gave me a big hug.”

After a decade as a television host, Henry Golding’s first Hollywood gig was Crazy Rich Asians.

At first, he was reluctant to audition for the lead role of Nick Young, given that he had so little acting experience. The viewhe recalled“They’d say, ‘Oh, you want to audition for this part? It’s going to be a big movie.’ I’d say, ‘Oh, I’ve heard about it. It’s going to be fantastic, but it’s going to be for someone else, someone else who’s going to do a great job, who’s a legitimate actor, who the studio is going to take a gamble on. Because it’s a big project.'”

Victoria Pedretti only appeared in two short films in college before landing The Haunted Hill House.

The show came out in 2018, just a year after she graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in theater from Carnegie Mellon School of Drama in Pittsburgh. In an interview with ColliderShe recalled her first role, saying, “It was really an environment for true creativity, and I’m forever grateful for that… It was a really special way to start my career.”

Lupita Nyong’o has only appeared in a few episodes of a Kenyan TV show and a short film before 12 years of slaveryFor her performance, she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.

She landed the role of Patsey right after graduating from the Yale School of Drama. In an interview with Vanity FairShe said, “It was very difficult to be Patsey, and it was very difficult to leave her alone at the end of the day… But it was a privilege to be in that state of grieving; it was hard, but I felt so privileged to do it because at the end of the day, my discomfort and my unease were temporary, and hers was not.”
