The priests of Nath Samaj have been worshiping in this temple for about 800 years.

Gangeshwar Mahadev, situated in the Nimbahera area on the border of Chittargarh-Pratapgarh district, is enthroned in a cave about 125 feet deep from the ground. The depth of the cave is such that by reaching the Shivling, the oxygen level decreases so much that even breathing becomes difficult. The second feature of this natural and religious place, believed to be about 1130 years old, is that during the rainy days, the darshan stops due to water filling the entire cave.

In this cave, water falls from the Gomukh built in the stepwell, about 8 km away, which is interconnected with this cave underground.
